Wolverhampton Music Education Hub (WMEH) has over ten years’ experience supporting the musical development of children in almost 100 schools in the city.

Background

In June 2022, the government published a new National Plan for Music Education, for implementation in September 2023. The Power of Music to Change Lives: A National Plan for Music Education, sets out a vision for Music Education up to 2030. The plan This vision is: To enable all children and young people to learn to sing, play an instrument and create music together, and have the opportunity to progress their musical interests and talents, including professionally.
It is underpinned by three main interlocking aims. Essentially, the Music Education opportunities in school and outside of school should meet the needs of young people locally, so that they can develop their interests and talents as far as possible.

Music Education Hubs

The Wolverhampton Music Education Hub is a partnership, led by the Hub Lead Organisation (Wolverhampton Music Service), that is responsible for supporting, delivering and enabling access to music education activity for children and young people within Wolverhampton.

The Hub will deliver against three aims as set out in the National Plan for Music Education (NPME), published in 2022:

To support schools and other education settings to deliver high-quality music education
To support young people to further develop their musical interests and talent, including into employment
To support all children and young people to engage with a range of musical opportunities in and out of school

The Hub Lead Organisation (Wolverhampton Music Service) is also responsible for the five strategic functions outlined in the NPME: Partnerships, Schools, Progression and musical development, Inclusion and Sustainability.

From September 2023, Hubs outline how they will achieve these aims and strategic functions in a Local Plan for Music Education (LPME), which partners will work collectively to design and deliver.

Along with its partner organisations, the Music Hub strives to provide a high quality, broad and inclusive offer of support for music education to schools and young people across Wolverhampton.

Azaad Arts

We promote and practise cultural heritage through Punjabi Folk Music and dance. Our work includes education, training, consultancy and performance, enriching diversity and inclusion through various partnerships and projects.

We develop and deliver a range of innovative arts-based workshops, programmes, and projects to educate and empower people and groups throughout the community.

Azaad Arts is a Community Group which is dedicated to the development and music education of young people through Punjabi Folk music and projects.

Paul Wilcox

Paul is an exceptionally talented singer/vocal coach/musician who has worked on many projects for the Hub in Wolverhampton.

These include leading our epic outdoor Singing in The Rain events, where he leads hundreds of primary pupils into song in the City Centre.

Bedazzle - WYMT

Our vision is that every young person feels their capacity to Bedazzle

Our founders, lifelong professionals working in public health, education, and care, have seen this belief slipping incrementally over the past decade.

As partners of Wolverhampton Music Education Hub, we manage and curate the performances of the Wolverhampton Youth Music Theatre. Our young performers can attend largely subsidised activity during the Summer and Easter holiday periods. We are now also offering more activity funding by the Holiday Activity Fund in partnership with Wolverhampton City Council.

Wolverhampton Symphony Orchestra

The Wolverhampton Symphony Orchestra is a fully independent amateur orchestra formed in 1973 by a group of keen amateur players. The idea behind the formation of the orchestra was to satisfy a need for local players to prepare to as high a standard as possible interesting works for public performance. This is still the primary aim of the orchestra today.

The orchestra is managed by a committee consisting of the Musical Director and the leader plus members elected by the orchestra. It is financed through concert receipts and an annual subscription paid by the members.
It is also affiliated to Making Music (previously known as the National Federation of Music Societies).
